What you need to know ...

How to buy a gestation

1. Gestation Availability Check with BLH that the desired gestation is still available.

2. Notification of intention to reserve Inform our office of your intention to reserve the recipient mare. This official notification initiates the booking process and prepares BLH for the next stage of the transaction.

3. Change of ownership Change of ownership occurs on the day of full payment for the embryo. This payment marks the transfer of ownership of the embryo in the recipient mare to the purchaser.

4. Confirmation ultrasound On the day of settlement or within the following 72 hours, the recipient mare undergoes an ultrasound scan. If the animal is no longer pregnant, all sums paid are refunded to the purchaser. This step ensures that the buyer bears no financial risk in the event of gestation loss.

5. Choice of Gestation Insurance After confirming the gestation, you indicate whether you wish BLH to insure the gestation or whether you prefer to have the recipient mare delivered. This choice must be communicated quickly to enable efficient logistics management.

6. Transmission of Certificates All certificates required for foal registration are transmitted to the purchaser on the day of the recipient mare’s ultrasound test. This documentation is essential for the foal’s official registration.

7. Responsibility for transport Transport of the recipient mare is the responsibility of the purchaser. However, BLH can facilitate the logistics by scheduling the journey and issuing the necessary export certificates free of charge. This logistical assistance reduces the potential complications associated with transport.

8. Long-term accommodation Purchasers wishing the recipient dam to reside at the Châtenay stud until foaling must consult the long-term accommodation agreement: CONVENTION. This document details the conditions and responsibilities involved in keeping the recipient mare at stud for an extended period.

Conclusion This structured process ensures a clear and secure acquisition of the gestating recipient mother, while offering flexible guarantees and options to purchasers. BLH is committed to providing a transparent and professional service at every stage of the transaction.

How to buy a foal

  1. Foal availability:
    • Before proceeding, please confirm with BLH that the desired foal is still available.
  2. Introducing the Poulain:
    • We encourage you to make an appointment for a presentation of the foal. We can provide additional video footage of the foal on request.
  3. Poulain reservation:
    • To reserve your foal, you can have it examined by your veterinarian or by the private veterinarian working with the Châtenay center, in order to draw up a certificate of good health.
    • Upon receipt of the veterinary certificate or, if applicable, upon validation of your reservation, the full purchase price of the foal will be invoiced.
  4. Transfer of ownership:
    • Once payment has been made in full, ownership is transferred. The foal and the recipient mother then become your responsibility.
  5. Foal delivery:
    • Delivery of the foal will be possible either on the day of payment if the recipient mare is not pregnant again (a deposit of €2,500 excl. VAT will be required if the mare is not returned at weaning time), or when the foal is weaned if the mare is pregnant again (boarding at the Châtenay stud is at the embryo owner’s expense). The physiological condition of the recipient mare will be communicated to you at the time of booking and will not change.
  6. Foal transport:
    • Transportation of the foal is your responsibility. However, BLH can facilitate the logistics by scheduling the journey and issuing the necessary export certificates free of charge.
  7. Long-term accommodation:

Important notes:

  • Certificate of Good Health: This document is crucial for validating the booking and invoicing the total amount.
  • Deposit in the event of non-return: In the event of non-return of the recipient mare at weaning, a deposit of €2,500 excluding VAT will be required.
  • Transport responsibility: Although transport is the responsibility of the buyer, BLH offers a logistics facilitation service for transport and export procedures.
  • Accommodation agreement: For long-term accommodation at the Châtenay stud, consultation and acceptance of the long-term accommodation agreement is compulsory.

This process ensures a transparent and secure transaction for the acquisition of your foal or yearling from BLH. If you have any questions or require further information, please contact our customer service department.

Our commitments

TRANSPARENCY

We manage our mares as a family business with the aim of making the most of their production. In this way, the number of pregnancies per year is controlled and known to all. Sales prices are fixed and not subject to negotiation.

DELIVERY

For simplicity’s sake, BLH can handle the logistics of transporting the pregnant or foaled recipient mare to the facility where you wish her to reside.

BLH offers delivery in metropolitan France, but the responsibility for transport remains yours.

When the recipient mare leaves, she will be scanned to check her pregnancy. A full refund will be given if the dog is no longer pregnant and leaves within 10 days of purchase.

INSURANCE

BLH offers a Live Foal Guarantee of 10% of the gestation value if the recipient mare remains in the care of European Stallion Resort until 48 hours after foaling. (AGREEMENT)

This insurance is optional. Please let us know at the time of booking if you wish to take advantage of it.

BREEDING

BLH is a large breeding center that welcomes around a hundred pregnant mares a year. We are particularly well placed to provide gestation, foaling and breeding services for your purchase.

CERTIFICATES and DOCUMENTS

All documents and certificates necessary for the registration or insurance of your foal are provided at the time of purchase. No stud fees will be charged. Should you have any special requests or require assistance, our secretarial staff will be happy to help.
